Rare Star Wars figures expected to raise thousands at Newcastle auction

Star Wars collectors will be able to bid on hundreds of rare items as they go up for auction

Two collectors from Singapore and Derby have spent decades gathering the unique items and have now decided to sell off their collections through Anderson and Garland Auctioneers in Westerhope. The auction will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, November 9 and 10, with prices set to range from £50 to thousands of pounds.

Memorabilia on offer include original 1980s boxed Star Wars figures such as a rare blue Snaggletooth action figure, that is set to fetch around £150.

A life-size model of Han Solo is also going up for auction with an estimated price of around £600. A highly detailed scale model of the Death Star from Star Wars is also up for grabs and is expected to be sold for around £2,000.

Valuer and auctioneer, Fred Wyrley-Birch, from Anderson and Garland Auctioneers, said they were "fantastic collections."

"There are two collections in amongst this particular sale," he said.

"There is a collection of what is generally termed as 'carded figures' because they are still on their original packaging cards, which have been sent in from Singapore. They are worth anything from £50 and some of them could do a couple of thousand.

"There are some rarities there, some that retailed through Japan rather than Europe and America. There is a nice, good, collector's amount that someone has been putting together for 25 to 30 years."

The second collection mainly features models that range from light sabers to figurines and also includes a Lego Death Star worth £800, and rare images of Darth Vader.

"The master replicas of Star Wars pieces of the Snowspeeder and the Walker are going to be two big hitters," Fred said.

"There is a very detailed model of the Death Star that could do a few thousand. There are also oddities in there like Arnold Schwarzenegger's face, a prophetic of his face that was moulded for use in the first Terminator.

"Most of these things tend to go to collectors and people who are passionate about the same things that these collectors are buying them for. They love the films and they encapsulate the drama these films create.

"There are some interesting things in there and stuff that is hard to find."
