Our Newcastle auction house has for 160 years specialised in generating excellent sale results for pieces created by local artists or antiques with a regional significance. The recent Fine Art Auction proved an epic show of interest in artworks from the North East and Northumberland!
A gorgeous painting of “Sunrise, Warkworth Castle, River Coquet, Northumberland” by the well-known son of local painter Thomas Miles Richardson was sold for a remarkable £5,700. Lot no 705 by Thomas Miles Richardson, jnr was one of the most sought after pieces at this auction.
Lot 817: John Wilson Carmichael, (1799-1868) oil on canvas “Shipping off Tynemouth” which was estimated at a mere £400-£600 ended up in a bidding frenzy that reached £2,500.
Lot 679: “Sunny autumn morning… man with dog” by popular North East artist Norman Stansfield Cornish fetched more than double its estimated value with a final hammer price of £1,600.
A watercolour from another artist who was raised in North Shields, Thomas Marie Madawaska Hemy, sold for a whopping £2,000. Lot 761, “Whitby Fish Quay” was only estimated at up to around £450.
Cornish featured again in this high-stake auction with a piece that had previously gone unsold. Lot 709 “Children Playing” which was expected to go for no more than around £2,500 ulitmately fetched £5,400 in the Fine Art Auction.
