£26,000 was raised for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation

Sunday 22nd February, St. James Park

The John Alder collection of Football Memorabilia

John Alder, AKA "The Undertaker", was one of Newcastle United's most devoted of fans, famous for attending almost every game of his adult life. Tragically he was one of the 298 victims of the MH17 plane disaster. In memoriam, his family have very generously donated his entire collection of football programmes and books to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation who asked us to auction the collection on their behalf. We were very happy to donate our services free for such a worthy cause. Newcastle United have also rallied around and generously donated two rooms at St. James' Park and attendant staff to help with the viewing and sale. John's collection includes a 1924 FA Cup Final programme, thought to be very rare as the weather that day was dreadful and most were ruined or used to shield heads from the wind and rain; a 1970 Ujpest Dozer v Newcastle United Fairs Cup programme; and three programmes from Newcastle's tour of South Africa in 1952. The sae will be held on the afternoon of Sunday 22nd February with viewing on the morning of sale and Saturday prior. Our thanks also go to Gary Cook, carrier, for donating his time and services and MailBoxes Etc. who will donate any profits from the postage of lots bought by collectors out of the area to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
